We usually talk about the Swedish music miracle, but nowadays it can be called the Swedish songwriting miracle. We are number one in the EU when it comes to exporting music, says Lina Heyman, acting CEO of Stim to TT.
In 2024, the member organization was able to pay out 2.9 billion kronor to Swedish music creators – who sometimes can be quite anonymous, Heyman notes.
For example, 25-year-old songwriter Elvira Anderfjärd, who has written for Kate Perry, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and First Aid Kit. She has also provided backing vocals for The Weeknd's” Take my breath”. Another name is Ylva Dimberg, who writes for the K-pop group New Jeans.
Lina Heyman believes that the success of Swedish music creators is due to several factors.
It can be attributed to good education, good networks, and collaborations in the industry.
At the same time, she believes that there are major challenges.
The public support for promoting Swedish music abroad is decreasing. The success is not something we can take for granted, but we must continue to invest in music throughout Sweden.
