During the first quarter of this year, the number of members increased by almost 13,000. During the same period last year, it increased by around 2,600.
“Unemployment is high and has been for a long time,” said Johan Ahlgren, head of communications at Sweden’s unemployment insurance funds, in a press release. He said more people perceiving the labor market as insecure means more people want to insure their wages.
"For anyone who wants to increase their security in the labor market, the recommendation is to become a member of an unemployment insurance fund when you get your first job," he said.
