It is in Slovakia's southern border region, in the village of Kamenica nad Hronom, that the record-breaking temperature of 41.4 degrees was measured. The most recent heat record of 41.3 degrees was measured in the same village on June 30 this year.
For the second day in a row, record-breaking temperatures have also been recorded in Austria. On Tuesday, 41 degrees were recorded in the capital, Vienna, and on Wednesday, 41.2 degrees in the eastern parts of the country.
Extreme heat warnings have been issued in Austria, Slovakia and Hungary.
