Peterson has been ranked as high as 43rd in the WTA rankings. That was in 2019. Since then, Peterson has had injury-plagued seasons and currently has no WTA ranking.
On Instagram, Peterson writes that she has undergone surgery.
"A herniated disc in the thoracic spine with a pointed calcification that had perforated the spinal cord sac ultimately made surgery inevitable. Everything went well and I look forward to coming back stronger," Peterson writes.
