Around 70 Real Sociedad supporters were attacked during the night leading up to Thursday at a bar in central Rome, according to Italian police. At least nine of the football fans have been reported injured, several after being stabbed and one is said to be seriously injured.
The attack is said to have been carried out by around 80 of Lazio's so-called "ultras" supporters, who fled when the police arrived at the scene, according to the Italian news agency AGI.
The Spanish Real Sociedad supporters were in the Italian capital for Thursday's match between the teams in the European Championship.
According to the Italian news agency Ansa, the police have reviewed the video surveillance of the area and identified several of the individuals who participated in the attack. Objects used in the attack have also been seized.
