Real Madrid unexpectedly dropped points in their first match against Al Hilal in the club team World Championship after the Spanish giant played a draw against the team from Saudi Arabia.
But in Real Madrid's second group stage match against Pachuca, they bounced back.
The "Marängerna" won with 3–1, despite having one man less for large parts of the match.
Already in the seventh minute, the young central defender Raúl Asencio was shown the red card.
Asencio was given a red card for a goal chance foul after pulling down Pachuca's José Salomón Rondón, when the experienced striker came running with the ball.
Despite this, Real Madrid took a 2–0 lead in the first half through goals by Jude Bellingham and Arda Güler.
In the 70th minute, Federico Valverde extended the lead to 3–0.
With just over ten minutes left of regular playing time, Elias Montiel reduced the score to 1–3. But Real Madrid's ten men could hold on and won the match.
This is Real Madrid's newly appointed coach Xabi Alonso's first win as head coach for the club.
Earlier in the evening, Juventus won with 4–1 against their Moroccan opponent Wydad. The Italian giant club has now won both its initial matches in the championship.
