The law on unacceptable treatment of a religious text was adopted in December 2023 after an intense debate following several Quran burnings, including in Sweden, which had sparked great outrage in Muslim countries.
The case concerns an incident last year in June when Paludan and another man allegedly mishandled a Quran incorrectly during a political event on Bornholm. The two men allegedly, among other things, ripped out pages from the religious scripture while the incident was filmed and broadcast live on the Stram Kurs party's open Facebook page, writes Ritzau.
The men deny the crime.
