The national team has kept a defenseman spot open in the squad with the hope of bringing in a late NHL reinforcement. But 26-year-old Dahlin, whose Buffalo was recently eliminated in the Stanley Cup playoffs, now looks unlikely to play in the World Cup in Switzerland.
According to Aftonbladet, Tim Heed will instead be registered as Tre Kronor's eighth and final World Cup defenseman.
Tre Kronor has started the World Cup with two wins and two losses and will next face Italy on Friday evening.
