According to the site Muumimukit Rahaksi, an online store specialising in collectibles with Moomin motifs, this is the largest known amount paid for a single mug.
The identity of the buyer has not been made public.
"The buyer was a long-time Moomin collector who was already a familiar customer of ours," says Rasmus Rantanen, CEO of Muumimukit Rahaksi, in a press release.
The Arabia mug is called “Simhopp with seashells” and was launched in 2006. In addition to the production version, a small trial series with seashell and coral patterns was also produced, which was never sold. However, only about ten copies were made and these were reportedly distributed to employees at Arabia’s factory.
