Fermín López's opening pass gave Raphinha a clear opportunity already in the match's first attack. He elegantly rounded Manuel Neuer and pushed the ball into the far corner.
A great start is always a good beginning, but not a guarantee for a good continuation.
Not when the opponent is Bayern München and the defense has Harry Kane to deal with. The English goal machine got – and rightly so – an elegant headed goal ruled out for offside.
Kane showed class
The approved equalizer was aesthetically not far behind the beauty of the disallowed header. Kane acrobatically converted Serge Gnabry's cross.
Robert Lewandowski's, the former Bayern player, 2–1 goal for Barcelona was controversial. Fermín López went hard at defender Kim Min-Jae, but the goal was approved.
A decisive moment in the top match, as the game was in the balance.
Raphinha made sure the scales tipped completely in Barcelona's favor, with the 3–1 goal shortly before halftime and 4–1 early in the second half.
Goalless at home again
Atalanta remains unbeaten after three matches, but has so far played 180 minutes at home in Bergamo without scoring a single goal. First, Arsenal held out for 0–0, and more surprisingly, Celtic did the same.
The Scottish club recovered well after the 1–7 defeat against Dortmund in the previous round and took a point back to Glasgow.
National team player Isak Hien played as usual as a central defender in Atalanta's three-man backline.
Gabriel Gudmundsson has taken a regular national team spot under Jon Dahl Tomasson, largely thanks to his regular playing time in Lille.
Lille won again
He was in the starting lineup away against Atlético Madrid. Lille fell behind but managed to turn it around to a 3–1 victory, thanks to two goals by Jonathan David – with Gudmundsson as the playmaker for the second goal. Lille has now beaten both Real and Atlético Madrid in a short time and got an excellent start to the group stage in the Champions League.
Manchester City crushed Sparta Prague with 5–0 after an artistic goal by Erling Braut Haaland. Liverpool won away against Leipzig with 1–0.
