Last year, New York Rangers brought home the Presidents Trophy as the NHL's best team in the regular season.
It was then – this season will not even be playoffs for Mika Zibanejad and his team after they lost the match's deciding game against Carolina away with 7–3. Precisely as the figures indicate, the visitors were never really close to a win.
The home team managed to score four goals before Will Cuylle succeeded in reducing in the second period's final seconds. At best, Rangers had 5–3 after two more reductions in the final act, but no closer than that did they get. Instead, Carolina could score two goals in an open net.
A sad exit for the New York team, but for the Three Crowns' part, it means that Zibanejad may now become relevant for the World Championship in Stockholm, which takes place in May.
