Rangers respond to Shesterkin injury with 6-2 win over Canucks: ‘Exactly what we needed’

The New York Rangers suffered a major blow when star goaltender Igor Shesterkin was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. Last night, they still secured a convincing home win over Vancouver, thanks in part to Mika Zibanejad.

In the New York Rangers’ first NHL game since the injury, Canadian Dylan Garand took over in goal. He made 19 saves.

One shot he failed to stop, however, was Elias Pettersson’s 2-2 goal for Vancouver late in the second period.

The game turned even more blue and yellow when Mika Zibanejad set up two Rangers goals in the final period.

The New York Rangers won 6–2.

"Anyone can easily lose their cool after news as terrible as the news about Igor, but we really stepped up tonight. This was exactly what we needed," Rangers defenseman Marcus Pettersson told Aftonbladet.
