Rickard Rakell has undergone surgery on his left hand and will be out for a longer period from NHL ice hockey.

Pittsburgh writes that Rakell underwent a successful operation on Sunday and that the Swedish forward is expected to need six to eight weeks for rehabilitation.

If the prognosis holds, the 32-year-old will be back on the ice sometime in December.

Rakell has had a successful start to the season and has been credited with three goals and five assists in nine matches.
