Rickard Rakell scored two goals and got two assists, Bryan Rust made a hat-trick and superstar Sidney Crosby, one of the league's veterans, was credited with four assists. This means that Crosby passes legend Gordie Howe in number of assists made in one and the same team. Crosby is now up to 1,026 assists and is in his 20th season for Pittsburgh.
Despite the final score, it was Montreal that took the lead after just over two minutes into the first period, but Rickard Rakell made sure to equalize for Pittsburgh two minutes later.
And then it was a fun finish for the home team, and the Rust/Rakell/Crosby trio saw to it that Pittsburgh had the grip and the upper hand. Rakell made it 4–2 at the beginning of the third period, a period where the visiting team altogether scored six goals.
