Vegas center William Karlsson suffered a lower body injury a few weeks ago and is not ready for play in the upcoming national team tournament in ice hockey, the first in nine years with only NHL players.
In his place, Pittsburgh's Rickard Rakell gets the chance, writes Tre Kronor on X.
The 31-year-old has 45 points in 52 matches in the NHL this season.
Goalkeeper Jacob Markström has previously been forced to cancel his participation in the tournament due to injury.
Tre Kronor will face Canada, the USA, and Finland in a group stage with the first two matches in Montreal, Canada, and the last in Boston, USA. The two highest-ranked teams will then meet in the final on January 21, also in Boston.
