The iconic Piazza del Plebiscito square in Naples, Italy, was transformed into a volleyball arena with space for more than 6,000 spectators.
On Thursday night, the plan was for the home side, who are also world champions, to face Sweden in the opener. But that did not really happen. The match was first delayed for just over 15 minutes because of rain, and once the first set got underway, the rain continued, causing the match to be suspended.
After the long stoppage, the match resumed. Italy took the first set 25-22.
