Both finished the golf competition in Abu Dhabi at 25 under par after 72 holes. On the first playoff hole, Rai made a birdie putt and thus won the competition.
It feels incredible, says Rai in the victory interview after taking his third victory on the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour).
Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy climbed nine places on the final day and shared third place with Dane Nicolai Højgaard at -24.
The Swedes did not have a successful week in Abu Dhabi. Alex Norén finished in 17th place, -17 overall. Ludvig Åberg was two strokes behind in 23rd place, Mikael Lindberg finished 41st, -11 overall and Joakim Lagergren was 62nd, -5.
Next week the play-offs will be decided in Dubai with a prize pool of SEK 95 million and many points at stake. McIlroy leads the tour ahead of Englishmen Marco Penge and Tyrrell Hatton.
Joakim Lagergren needs a top finish to earn a spot on the PGA Tour next season.
