The crossing has been completely closed since Israel and the US began attacks on Iran.
The crossing is now opening in both directions. Palestinian patients are allowed to travel to Egypt, and stranded Palestinians are allowed to return to Gaza, according to an anonymous Egyptian Red Crescent official.

The border crossing is the only one from Gaza that does not border Israel.
