Emma Raducanu has since she broke through in 2021 been exposed to several stalkers. Ahead of this year's third Grand Slam, one of them tried to buy tickets to the tournament, but was stopped after it was discovered by the organizer.
Wimbledon did a fantastic job. I was informed when the police contacted me and said that everything was under control.
In 2022, a man was given a five-year ban on contact after he stalked the tennis star.
The man who now tried to buy tickets to Wimbledon followed Raducanu in five consecutive tournaments during her winter tour in Asia. In Dubai, the man was thrown out of the arena and the WTA red-flagged the name in its alarm system – which made the Wimbledon organizer discover him.
After the incident in Dubai, Raducanu has had more security personnel around her and feels safer now.
I have recently had good protection when I have been to these events, especially here in the UK where there are a lot of people and spectators. It calms me down and makes me feel more relaxed.
Wimbledon starts on June 30 and runs until July 13.
