"Not enough with the heartache – the racist attacks on social media are wrong and extremely hurtful", says Chiles in a statement.
She continues:
"I have put my heart and soul into this sport and I am so proud to represent my culture and my country".
The American was stripped of her Olympic Games bronze in the floor exercise after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) ruled that the appeal filed by the American side during the final, which gave Chiles the points needed for a third place, was submitted too late.
"I have no words. The decision feels unfair and comes as a hard blow. Not just against me, but against everyone who has helped me on my journey".
The bronze has instead been awarded to Romanian Ana Barbosu, who originally took third place before Chiles' appeal went through.
The USA Gymnastics Federation has submitted video evidence to prove that the appeal during the final was submitted within the time limit, but Cas has stated that the decision cannot be changed.
The American Federation will now turn to the Swiss court, writes AFP.
