Jess Carter was criticized after her defensive performance against Sweden. Now the 27-year-old claims that some have gone as far as writing racist insults.

"Even if every supporter has the right to their opinion regarding performance and result, I do not think it is okay to focus on someone's appearance or race” she continues in the same post.

The English Football Association has now contacted the British police.

We strongly condemn those responsible for this disgusting racism, says the association's CEO Mark Bullingham according to AP.

He continues:

They (the police) are in contact with the social platforms in the case and we are working with the police to ensure that those responsible for these hate crimes are held accountable.

Jess Carter, who has played 49 matches for the English national team and normally represents Gotham FC, is now taking a step back from social media.

”To protect myself and maintain focus on helping the team” she explains.
