Late in the evening of January 29 this year, Salwan Momika was shot to death in an apartment in Södertälje. At the time of the crime, he was broadcasting on Tiktok. He went out onto the balcony to smoke and then shots were heard, according to witnesses who followed the broadcast.
A few hours after the murder, five men were arrested and detained. They were later released and in March, they were cleared from the investigation.
Today, there is no suspect for the murder. According to the prosecutor, some kind of breakthrough is now needed in the investigation, otherwise it will become a so-called cold case after the summer.
Something more is required now for us to be able to move on. You can't investigate crimes indefinitely, that's how it is in all cases, says Rasmus Öman to SVT.
Salwan Momika carried out several Koran burnings during 2023. They received extensive international attention and sparked outrage in large parts of the Muslim world.
The day after the murder, the Stockholm District Court was to have delivered a verdict in a case where Momika was charged with incitement to racial hatred.
A man who was with Momika during the Koran burnings was sentenced to conditional imprisonment and day fines in early February.
