After a Friday of small price movements, the US stock market closed slightly lower.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.2 percent, while the broad-based S&P 500 Index and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index both lost 0.1 percent.

Energy companies Constellation and Vistra had a tough day, falling 9.8 and 7.5 percent, respectively.

Chip giants AMD and Broadcom rose 1.7 and 2.5 percent, respectively.

Taiwanese contract manufacturer TSMC, one of semiconductor giant Nvidia's most important suppliers, rose 0.2 percent after Thursday's strong report.

The market did not react significantly to President Donald Trump's hesitation to nominate his economic advisor, Kevin Hassett, as the new head of the Federal Reserve.

During the week as a whole, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.3 percent, the S&P 500 Index fell 0.4 percent and the Nasdaq Composite Index fell 0.7 percent.
