With 70 seconds left in the first game in Avicii Arena, Filip Forsberg tied the score with a delicious backhand and then Nashville decided in overtime.
Snowy for Pittsburgh.
But the club would get its revenge.
Two days later, in the second game between the NHL teams in Stockholm, Pittsburgh got off to a flying start with three goals in the first half of the first period. Parker Wotherspoon put it 1–0 after 2:19 – assisted by Erik Karlsson – and then Evgenij Malkin and Sidney Crosby extended the lead to 2–0 and 3–0.
Then it was closed.
Pittsburgh controlled the game, held off Nashville and ultimately won 4–0.
"It's been great to be here for five, six days and to finish with a victory," Crosby told Viaplay.
We just tried to be better than last time. In the first game we didn't play the way we want to. This was more how we want to play, so it was nice to get three in the first and get a good start.
The 38-year-old leaves Stockholm with more than just victory – he got to swap sticks with his idol Peters Forsberg after the match.
"When you get older you appreciate things like this more. It was tough playing against him, I think I was -4 when I first met him. I never got to trade sticks with him so I hope to do that someday," Crosby said, then getting Forsberg's stick.
