The Norwegian royal house now consists only of King Haakon, Queen Mette-Marit and Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra, according to the royal family’s website, as Aftenposten was first to report.
"The Royal House includes the reigning monarch and their spouse, as well as the closest heirs in the next generation and their spouses," the website states.
Queen Sonja also looks set to lose her appanage. The government’s new budget proposal states that only King Haakon and Queen Mette-Marit will receive an appanage.
"The abdication means that a new privilege is established for the royal family," the budget proposal states.
