Qatar LNG tanker heads through Red Sea toward Poland despite attack risks

A large tanker carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar is heading through the Red Sea toward a Polish port, according to shipping data obtained by Bloomberg.

The route is unusual, as energy shipments are at risk of attack by the Yemen-based, Iran-backed Houthi movement as they transit the Red Sea in the wake of the Iran war.

The ship was loaded by QatarEnergy back in August.

According to the UKTMO - a security service that monitors international shipping - an LNG ship was fired upon off the coast of Yemen on Saturday. The ship's security team reportedly returned fire.

Monday's reports about the LNG ship heading to Poland indicate that it is the same ship, now continuing its journey towards Europe.

The delivery comes at a time when gas prices in Europe are hovering near record highs, up 1.2 percent to almost 89 euros per megawatt-hour.
