Orust's major Evert Taube prize of 50,000 kronor is awarded once a year to a lyricist who writes in Evert Taube's spirit.
The jury emphasizes that Bäckman "has created her own unique expression", among other things by breaking with traditional linguistic structures and by working with metaphors and morphology.
The singer and songwriter had her major breakthrough in the 1980s with Raj Montana Band, since then she has had a long solo career. She has written classics like Tommy Körberg's "Stad i ljus". Bäckman has also written the lyrics to, among other things, "Gabriellas sång" with Helen Sjöholm and Stefan Nilsson as well as many of the music duo Nordman's songs, including "Vandraren".
