Russia's President Vladimir Putin says he considers the US plans to annex Greenland as "serious".
He says this against the backdrop of Donald Trump, since being elected as the US President, having said on several occasions that the US will take control over the autonomous Danish territory.
We need it (the island). We must have it, said Trump in a podcast last Wednesday, claiming that American control over Greenland is a matter of international security.
According to Putin, the US means business with the plans.
We are talking about serious plans on the American side when it comes to Greenland. These plans have long-standing historical roots, says Putin at an Arctic forum in the city of Murmansk in northern Russia.
