Ahead of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, in Turkmenistan on Thursday.
Putin said Russia was ready to do everything it could “to bring an end” to the war that began on February 28, when the United States and Israel attacked Iran, according to Russian state-controlled media.
The meeting also demonstrated the close ties between Tehran and Moscow, which have strengthened since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Putin also said there were “positive developments” in relations between Iran and Russia.
The Commonwealth of Independent States brings together several former Soviet republics. The meeting is being held in the resort town of Türkmenbasy (Avaza) on the Caspian Sea.
