Putin says there is “no real motive” to escalate conflicts with European countries. He also claims that Russia is ready for negotiations on the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, “but such negotiations must be carried out in well-thought-out steps.”
The Russian president may be satisfied with his power base, as his United Russia party received more than 58 percent of the vote in the parliamentary elections to the Duma - elections that are not seen as fair or free, according to international observers.
