Nadezhdin is one of the few politicians in Russia who has openly criticised the country's war of aggression in Ukraine and its leader Vladimir Putin.
A few weeks ago, he was convicted in court of “displaying extremist symbols” after posting a clip of the deceased dissident Alexei Navalny in 2023.
Now Nadezhdin has shown in a video that he is in Paris, where he will soon decide "how to proceed."
"There is good news: I am alive and free. Unfortunately, I am not in Russia at the moment," he announced on Telegram, with the Eiffel Tower in the background.
