Already in its application for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy Act, in a court in Texas in November, Northvolt indicated that it would try to sell the unit Northvolt Systems Industrial.

It is unclear what the business is worth.

The aim is to make a deal before the turn of the year or shut down the business if it doesn't work out, reports Reuters, citing a Northvolt document that the agency has taken part of.

The business is part of Northvolt Systems, which is based in Poland. Among the customers are mining equipment manufacturer Epiroc and Finnish Konecranes.

The financially strained battery manufacturer Northvolt applied – after having unsuccessfully sought capital injections and new billion-kronor loans during the autumn – for bankruptcy protection in a court in Texas, USA, in November. The company had then stopped several projects and laid off around a fifth of its workforce during the autumn.

Northvolt had, at the end of October, over 7,000 employees, most of them in Skellefteå, Västerås, and Stockholm. But the group also had hundreds of employees in Poland, Germany, and Canada.
