The price reduction will be in effect until the end of the year and is a way to alleviate the effects of increased costs due to the war in Iran, according to the Tidö parties. However, there have been critical voices on the proposal, calling it all election fraud.
In Stockholm, approximately 700,000 people travel by public transport daily. Jakop Dalunde (MP) is the regional councillor for transport in Region Stockholm and he is critical of the fact that the government's announcement came at such short notice.
"I'm happy that prices will be reduced, but the problem is that we haven't had time to prepare. Now we risk increased congestion," he says.
The regional councillor in Skåne, Carina Zachau (M), does not share the criticism. On the contrary, she believes it was good that it happened quickly.
This came about because of the global situation, so it's clear that it happened quickly, but we need to get this support out to people quickly, she says.
Not all regions reimburse
The speed of the announcement has meant that some travelers have already purchased season tickets at the regular price before the proposal was presented. Eight of the regions say they will compensate travelers who have purchased season tickets at full price and that are valid for the period after July 1. However, there are exceptions - in Region Skåne, for example, there are no plans for any refunds.
We have not had any such discussions, says Carina Zachau (M), regional councillor, Skåne.
For those who have purchased the most expensive annual pass in Region Skåne and paid 13,700 kronor, this means that they are missing out on a discount of thousands of kronor.
Is there a risk that these travelers will feel cheated?
Very few people buy the annual pass and I haven't received that kind of reaction so far, she says.
Won't make a difference
In Norrbotten, public transport use is lower than in most parts of the country, with only 10 percent of all motorised trips made by bus and train.
Johannes Sundelin (S) is chairman of the regional public transport authority in the region and he does not believe that the new price will lead to an influx of new passengers.
It's such short-term support that I don't think it will make much of a difference, he says.
