Two stars injured and substituted and the first loss of the Champions League season. Reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain had a tough night at home to Bayern Munich at Parc des Princes.

First, PSG striker Ousmane Dembele – who has been sidelined with a thigh injury since the autumn – was forced to be substituted in the 25th minute. The Ballon d'Or winner had previously scored a goal that was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

"I don't know what it is yet, I don't think it's related to the recent injuries. It's a new injury," said coach Luis Enrique.

We have to be careful. It's not easy when you play a lot of games.

A few minutes later, Bayern Munich's Luis Díaz scored his second goal of the match to make it 2-0. Fifteen minutes later, in added time in the first half, the Colombian winger was shown a red card after a serious tackle on PSG right-back Achraf Hakimi, who was sent off.

Despite being one man down in the second half, Bayern managed to win the match and claim their fourth consecutive victory in the league phase of the Champions League. Substitute João Neves reduced the deficit in the 74th minute and the home team pressed for an equaliser, but it ended 2–1 to the Germans.

In England, Liverpool won the big match at Anfield against Real Madrid. Argentine Alexis Mac Allister scored the only goal of the match after just over an hour. The Spaniards, like PSG, thus suffered their first defeat in the Champions League this season.
