The rally, which will be held at the Parc des Princes in the 16th arrondissement, will require a robust security operation and a large police presence. This comes at a time when French police are under heavy pressure following recent protests that have swept across the country, including violence and looting. More than 2,000 people have been arrested.
After an emergency meeting with senior French government representatives, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said that, given the current situation, officials had discussed the possibility of canceling planned events, including football matches.
But this does not apply to tomorrow's match between PSG and FC Barcelona, says Laurent Nuñez.
“Here to talk about football”
At the press conference the day before the match, PSG coach Luis Enrique was asked whether the situation in France risked affecting his team.
"I'm not the right person to talk about this topic. I'm here to talk about football. It goes without saying that we dislike this kind of violence, but it's something that happens in society," he says.
Didn't mention the NFL game
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez also said that other European cup matches would go ahead as planned, including Wednesday's Champions League match between Lille and Galatasaray.
However, the NFL game between Pittsburgh and New Orleans, scheduled to be played on Sunday at the Stade de France, was not specifically mentioned.
Laurent Nuñez himself has had his request to resign rejected by the presidential staff at the Élysée Palace. The reason given is that sustained leadership is needed in the current situation.
