Lionel Messi was faced for the first time in his career against a former club – and it became a heavy reunion for the Argentine.

The superstar's Inter Miami took a severe blow when the team met Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16 of the World Championship for club teams.

The French top team, which Messi himself represented between 2021 and 2023, totally dominated and went to the break with a clear 4–0 lead.

Already after six minutes of play, PSG took the lead through Joao Neves, who could easily put the ball in the goal after a free kick from Vitinha. Neves then also increased to 2–0 after a mistake in Miami's defense.

Then the collapse continued. Thomas Aviles unfortunately scored an own goal to 3–0, and before the referee had time to blow for halftime, Achraf Hakimi made it 4–0 after taking advantage of his own rebound.

The hope of advancing thus seemed to be virtually gone for Messi and his Inter Miami already after the first half.

So it was also the case and after a goalless second half, PSG could advance to the quarterfinals in the tournament. There, PSG will face the winner of the match Flamengo-Bayern Munich.
