After the shock loss to Brazilian Botafogo in the second group stage match, Paris Saint-Germain were under pressure to win against Seattle Sounders at home to avoid a fiasco and elimination from the group.
And they did not falter.
The French top team won the match 2–0 after goals from both Kvaratschelia and Hakimi.
But the group win they had to get help with. After a late goal from Atletico Madrid against Botafogo in the parallel match, PSG passed the Brazilian team, which finished second. This means that Atletico Madrid only finishes third and is thus eliminated.
And now PSG may encounter a very familiar name already in the round of 16.
The group winner in group B, where the CL champion plays, is pitted against the second-placed team in group A, a spot that Lionel Messi's Inter Miami currently holds.
If it ends in a draw between Messi's club and Brazilian Palmeiras later tonight, it will be Messi against his old club in the round of 16.
The Argentine left the French club for play in the USA during the summer of 2023.
