The demonstration began with a memorial ceremony at the site where construction worker and father of three Lorenzo Salgado Araujo died on Tuesday.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, he was shot in self-defense after he ignored orders and tried to drive into an ICE car. His son, Ronaldo Salgado, told media that his father was likely afraid that the men in the unmarked car wanted to steal his tools.
Araujo had worked in the United States for 35 years. He had no criminal record but was in the country illegally. According to his son, he was close to obtaining a residence permit.
Deporting migrants who are in the United States illegally is a priority for President Donald Trump.
