Prosecutors Drop Most Charges Against Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte

The prosecution has dropped most of the charges against Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte, leaving only those related to allegedly misreporting assets.

"We are putting everything here. We believe the evidence is sufficient," says prosecutor Gerville Luistro.

If Duterte is impeached, she will be barred from holding political office, which would ruin her plans to become president in 2028.

Duterte was impeached last spring. The charges that have now been dropped in the Senate included bribery, corruption and an alleged death threat against President Ferdinand Marcos.

Despite being impeached, Duterte leads the opinion polls ahead of the 2028 presidential election, according to independent surveys.

Sara Duterte is the daughter of the country's former president Rodrigo Duterte, who has been indicted on criminal charges.
