Per Erik Rinsell, who is temporarily handling the case on behalf of the prosecutor Elisabeth Anderson, does not want to disclose why they have requested legal assistance from another country. However, according to him, there is still no other person besides the deceased shooter who is reasonably suspected in the case.
"I do not want to comment on what type of legal assistance it is about, but I can inform you that the Police Authority is now again the leader of the preliminary investigation, which in itself means that no one is reasonably suspected. The fact that the prosecutor temporarily took over is related to the authority to request legal assistance," he writes in an email to TT.
According to Dagens Nyheter, the prosecutor was involved on February 13. Five days later, on February 18, a request for legal assistance was sent to another country.
Prosecutor Elisabeth Anderson had previously decided that the leadership of the preliminary investigation should return to the police, since the suspect Rickard Andersson is deceased.
"There is no longer any reason for the investigation to be led by a prosecutor, but since they are still investigating whether the man acted alone, I have asked the police to keep me informed about the status of the investigation," she stated in connection with the decision.
International legal assistance in criminal cases means that prosecutors and courts in Sweden and abroad assist each other in criminal investigations. This can include, among other things, interrogations, preliminary investigations, secret data retrieval, and forensic examination of a deceased person.
