According to sources for several American media outlets, Comey was informed of the dismissal in a memo. Why she was fired is unclear, reports among others CBS News.
Comey was one of the leading prosecutors in the charges against Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, who were accused of having sexually exploited underage girls for at least a decade. Epstein was found dead in his cell shortly after being charged, while Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison for recruiting and "preparing" girls for the assaults.
As a prosecutor in Manhattan, Comey also acted as the lead prosecutor in the trial against hip-hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs, who was previously convicted of prostitution offenses in July but acquitted of more serious charges of sex trafficking and extortion.
Maurene Comey is the daughter of former FBI chief James Comey. He was fired from the post of chief by President Donald Trump in 2017, in connection with the investigation into possible links between Trump-associated individuals and Russia.
