Bolsonaro has now been formally charged with attempting a coup in connection with the election defeat in 2022, along with 33 other people.
Prosecutor-General Paulo Gonet states that the plan also aimed to kill Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
"The members of the criminal organization structured at the presidential palace a plan to attack institutions, which aimed to bring down the power system and the democratic order," writes Gonet in his report. "The plan was given the ominous name 'Green and Yellow Dagger' according to the prosecutor.
The Supreme Court will now take a stance on the charges and decide whether Bolsonaro should be brought to trial.
Bolsonaro himself denies involvement.
