Pro-Palestinian groups have called for both a boycott of Sheeran's tour and demonstrations outside the venues. Ahead of the Philadelphia gig, dozens of people gathered with placards and the Palestinian flag to protest.

Macklemore was dropped after, during his gigs as the opening act for Sheeran's concerts in New Jersey on September 4-5, shouting "Free Palestine" and performing his song "Hind's Hall", the lyrics of which describe Israel's war in Gaza as genocide.

The promoter subsequently stopped him from performing at the remaining US dates, and Ed Sheeran has been heavily criticised for not standing up for Macklemore. All other bands dropped out of the tour in protest and no new act has been announced for tonight's concert.
