The Chinese football talent Guo Jiaxuan is dead after being in a coma since a head injury in a training match in Madrid.

Guo died on Wednesday, the day before his 19th birthday, at a hospital in Beijing, according to the English-language Chinese newspaper Global Times, which refers to local media and the player's family.

Guo collided with another player in the match between Beijing Guoan's U20 team and Spanish Alcobendas in early February, according to the website Transfermarkt. He was declared brain dead in Spain and was then transported back to China. In Spain, brain death is equated with being dead, but not in China.

Center-back Guo has, among other things, represented China's U17 national team and was part of German giant club Bayern Munich's talent project "World Squad".
