Information about the transfer comes on Tuesday, barely a day after Israel attacked the prison.

"Prisoners serving their sentences in this prison are being moved to other facilities in the province of Tehran," it says on the Ministry of Justice's website according to AFP.

According to local media, the transports have been carried out. However, it is unclear how many inmates have been moved or if any have been left behind.

On Monday, smoke clouds were reported rising from Evin prison, after attacks during the ongoing war between Israel and Iran. The attacks are said to have been mainly directed at the institution's entrance and administrative parts. On Tuesday, state media wrote that the attack took place during visiting hours and that both employees and visitors and possibly even prisoners were killed and injured. However, it is unclear how many have fallen victim.

Evin prison houses many political prisoners, including the Swedish-Iranian researcher Ahmadreza Djalali, who has been imprisoned since 2016 and is sentenced to death. Djalali was moved on Monday, says his wife Vida Mehrannia to TT. On Tuesday, she has also been reached by the news that all prisoners have been transported away from Evin.

But I do not know where, she says.
