Prisoners' personal data exposed as record 562 alerts reported in 2025

In 2025, a record 562 alerts were received about suspected leaks of personal data by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. The corresponding figure for 2023 is 225 alerts, according to radio reports.

We are a large authority that is growing very quickly. This also means that the number of incidents is increasing, says Michael Laitinen, information security manager at the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.

Laitinen says it is regrettable that incidents happen, but that it is good they are reported.
