A football supporter in Spain has been sentenced to one year in prison for racist insults.
Three years ago, the supporter made gestures against then Cádiz player Carlos Akapo during a La Liga match in Granada. The incident was caught on film and the person initially received a 14-month stadium ban.
Now, a Spanish court has sentenced the person to one year in prison.
Carlos Akapo, who now plays in Brazil, applauded the news on social media. La Liga also commented.
"This closes one of the oldest cases of racism that La Liga is fighting to eradicate from football."
