Kristo has been sentenced by the Finnish Lapland District Court to two years and six months in prison for 78 counts of human trafficking. He has also been banned from doing business for five years.

The case is Finland's largest-ever human trafficking trial.

The former CEO, together with his Thai business partner, recruited berry pickers from Thailand to work in Finland, where they were, according to the district court, subjected to forced labor, among other things.

Kristo's business partner has also been sentenced to nine months in prison in the case.

Polarica is one of the largest berry companies in Europe with operations also in Sweden. Its head office is located in Haparanda.
