A man in western Jämtland has been sentenced to six months' imprisonment for gross animal cruelty, reports Östersunds-Posten.
During a control in January last year, the county administrative board found twelve severely emaciated calves that were in such poor condition that they had to be put down.
The man has pointed to problems with technical equipment and personal difficulties as explanations for the incident, but the district court finds that he has been grossly negligent.
In addition to the prison sentence, the man must also pay a fee to the crime victim fund.
His lawyer, Andreas Victor, states that it is still too early to say whether the verdict will be appealed or not.
