The Director-General of the Prison and Probation Service Martin Holmgren is leaving his post on 31 March next year, the agency writes on its website.

He has held the position since March 2020, but leaves when his appointment expires in 2026.

"Leading the Prison and Probation Service has been the most enjoyable and at the same time the most difficult task during my entire career. Challenging, but incredibly rewarding", says Martin Holmgren in a comment.

During Holmgren's time as director-general, over 5,000 places have been added in remand prisons and institutions, and the agency has grown by around 10,000 employees.

The work of recruiting his successor has begun.
